How Often Should You Change Spray Booth Filters?
Intake (Pre-filters):
👉 Every 1–3 months depending on dust levels and airflow requirements.
These filters protect the booth from incoming contaminants.
Exhaust Filters (Paint arrestors):
👉 Every 100–150 spray jobs or sooner, especially if there's a drop in airflow or visible overspray buildup.
These are critical for capturing overspray and protecting the environment.
Ceiling Filters (if applicable):
👉 Every 6–12 months or when pressure drop is too high.
What is MERV in Air Filters?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It's a standard rating system developed by ASHRAE (the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) to measure how effectively an air filter captures particles of different sizes.
MERV ratings range from 1 to 20.
The higher the MERV rating, the more particles the filter can trap — including dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and even smoke or viruses at the top levels.

How Do I Measure My Air Filter?
Depending on the amount of traffic your home or business receives can help determine how often your air/furnace filters need to be replaced. Regular filter changes can help reduce pollutants in the air and lower energy bills (as estimated by a 1-inch standard pleated filter).
- Lower traffic homes/apartments (single occupant/no pets): every 3-4 months
- Moderate traffic homes (no pets): every 90 days
- Moderate traffic homes with pets: every 60 days
- Densely populated households with more than 2 pets/occupants with allergies: once every 30 days
