When choosing an intake filter, it should be evaluated

  • Efficiency / MERV rating
  • Size of filter
  • Style of filter
  • Type of paint booth (crossdraft, downdraft, etc.)

Efficiency Ratings (MERV)

  • MERV 6–8: Common for crossdraft booths; sufficient for most applications.
  • MERV 10+: Required for downdraft booths, delivering cleanroom-grade filtration to ensure superior paint finishes.

Replacement cycle

Under normal circumstances, the replacement cycle of the intake filter is usually around 3 months.

Visible contamination on the surface: If there is obvious dust accumulation, stains, or blockage on the filter surface, it may need to be replaced in advance even if the pressure drop and dust - holding capacity have not reached the strict standards. Especially when the color of the filter changes significantly from light to dark, it indicates that its filtering capacity has been affected.

Performance degradation affecting equipment operation: If it is found that the performance degradation of the filter causes abnormalities in the equipment, such as a significant reduction in the air volume of the ventilation system or the equipment overheating due to insufficient intake air, the filter should be replaced immediately regardless of the pressure drop and dust - holding capacity to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.

Crossdraft VS Downdraft Booths & Air Make-Up units

  • Crossdraft Paint Booths: Used for industrial painting needs, these booths typically use polyester intake filters with MERV 6–8 ratings to remove particulates effectively. These filters are easy to install without clips or mounting hardware, creating a secure fit for optimal air flow.
  • Downdraft Paint Booths: Common in automotive and other fine finish applications, these commonly utilize intake diffusion pads with a minimum MERV 10 rating, removing over 99+% of particles 7-10 microns or larger, while ensuring even air distribution for consistent coating applications.
  • Make-Up Air units.  Many booths are designed with these, helping to ensure balance of air inside and outside the booth. The filters used in these provide the first line of defense against contaminants and also help extend the life of the more expensive filters downstream.

Product Overview

  • Cross Draft Panel Filters

Series 55 is widely used in cross-draft paint booths. They ensure clean air by trapping dust and debris before they enter the booth.

  • Downdraft Ceiling Filters

In a downdraft - style paint booth, air enters through the ceiling. Proper filtration is needed for a dust - free environment. Series 560 and Ceiling filters are the first defense, trapping contaminants before they reach the workspace.

  • Cube/Pocket Filters

Tackified Poly Cubes are self-supported pocket filters offer excellent long life moisture resistant flexibility.Offers more than five times the surface area than flat filter.
